Frequently Asked Questions
-
The 6km of river boundary at the Outpost is a prime habitat for the legendary Murray Cod as well as Golden Perch (yellowbelly), Silver Perch and other species. You’ll be navigating a mix of deep, timbered holes, oxygenated rapids, and granite-lined runs. It is an authentic, wild fishery where reading the water is part of the pursuit.
-
Yes. All guests intending to fish must hold a current NSW Recreational Fishing Fee (license). These must be secured online via Service NSW prior to arrival. We recommend saving a digital copy to your phone, as we cannot issue them at the Outpost.
-
To ensure the Severn River remains a premier trophy fishery, all Murray Cod and native species must be returned to the water. Your guide will assist in handling the fish safely to ensure they are released in peak condition.
-
We provide a curated selection of specialized rods and reels suited to the Severn’s conditions, along with a kit of traditional lures. Whether you are casting into heavy timber or working the rapids, we’ve selected the gear that gets the job done.
-
Absolutely. If you have a "lucky" setup or specific lures you prefer to use, feel free to bring them along. Your guide can provide the local intel on which of your lures will work best given the current river conditions.
-
Every booking includes full use of our stable stealth kayaks and safety gear (PFDs). These are provided for your self-paced exploration of the river. Because the kayaks are high-quality and stable, they are ideal for both focused fishing and navigating the canyon corridor.
Fishing & Equipment
-
The Outpost is located on our private acreage in Wellingrove, NSW. To maintain the wilderness and total privacy, the property is accessed via locked gates. Upon entry, your expedition begins. Further details will be provided upon booking.
-
Yes. You can park your vehicle securely inside our locked gates for the duration of your stay. Because we are a private property with controlled entry, you can leave the modern world behind with total peace of mind.
-
Transit from the front gates to the riverside camp is handled in our UTV. This all-terrain vehicle allows us to move you and your gear safely.
-
The Outpost is a raw, natural environment. While the UTV does the long-distance work, you will need a moderate level of mobility to navigate the riverbanks, move between granite outcrops, and step in and out of the kayaks. The ground can be uneven and rocky; if you have specific concerns about the terrain, please reach out before booking.
-
Despite the isolation, you are never truly out of reach. We maintain emergency satellite communication (Starlink and InReach) on-site at all times. There are plans in place for remote area protocols to ensure your safety is the priority from arrival to departure.
Access, Security & Physicality
Policy & Cancellations
-
The Severn River is a raw, unmanaged wilderness environment. While we provide the logistics, safety gear, and local knowledge, all wilderness activities—including kayaking, trekking, and fishing—carry inherent natural risks. To ensure everyone is briefed and protected, all guests are required to sign a liability waiver and indemnity form prior to the commencement of the expedition.
-
We operate in most weather conditions—the New England is known for its shifting skies.
However, your safety is our priority. If high water levels, flooding, or extreme fire danger make the river or UTV transit unsafe, we will contact you to reschedule your stay. If a reschedule isn't possible, a credit or full refund will be arranged.
-
Yes. However, due to the rugged nature of the river and the terrain, parents must ensure children are supervised at all times. Please contact us to discuss the suitability of the expedition for your family’s specific needs.
-
Because we host only one booking at a time, we have a strict policy to ensure the sustainability of the Outpost.
Cancellations made more than 30 days prior to arrival: Full refund.
Cancellations made within 14–30 days of arrival: Full refund minus a $200 admin fee.
Cancellations made within 14 days of arrival: Full refund minus a $500 admin fee.
We recommend all guests take out travel insurance to cover any unforeseen personal circumstances.
-
Date changes are subject to availability and our current booking calendar. Any request to move a booking must be made at least 21 days prior to your original arrival date.
-
To protect the wilderness and our livestock:
No Weapons: Firearms, bows, and all other weapons are strictly prohibited.
No Pets: Due to the proximity of livestock and native wildlife, we cannot allow dogs or other pets.
Fire Safety: Campfires are only permitted in the designated fire pits and may be restricted entirely during total fire bans.
Rubbish: We operate on a "Pack it in, Pack it out" basis for personal items, though we provide bins for standard basecamp waste.
Privacy: Guests must remain within the designated property boundary and property tracks as outlined by your Guide during the initial briefing.
-
We’ve built a camp that prioritizes functional comfort without losing the spirit of the bush. You will have access to a hot shower, flushing toilet and stay in Oztent RV3 units—renowned for their weatherproofing and sturdiness. We handle the entire setup and pack-down, so your camp is ready the moment you arrive at the river.
-
There is no "sleeping rough" at the Outpost. Each individual is provided with a single stretcher bed with quality mattress, linens, and pillows. Our goal is to ensure you are well-rested for a full day on the water or the ridges.
-
We focus on Field Provisions—hearty, honest campfire fare prepared over open coals or BBQ meals. All meals, light snacks, fresh water and non-alcoholic refreshments are included. You can expect a range of expedition-style breakfasts designed to fuel your day including toast, cereals, fresh fruit or the occasional cooked breakfast.
-
Yes. Because we prepare everything ourselves, we can accommodate most dietary needs. Please notify us of any specific requirements or allergies during the enquiry process or as soon as you have booked so we can plan the field menu accordingly.
-
No. We provide non-alcoholic drinks. You are more than welcome to bring your own preferred beverages to enjoy by the fire; we provide the fridge and ice.
-
We have an outdoor camp kitchen and a Fridge/Freezer. We provide all the necessary cutlery, plates, and seating. You don’t need to pack a single utensil—just bring your appetite.
-
The Outpost is a place to disconnect. While we have Starlink available for checking in with family and friends, weather updates or emergency comms, we encourage guests to unplug. There is nearly no standard mobile reception at the Outpost, allowing for a total digital detox. We do recommend bringing a battery pack for keeping your phone charged for photo opportunities.
