Vision: We created The Outpost because true, authentic bush experiences are becoming a rare commodity. As lifelong lovers of the Australian wilderness, we've always sought out those quiet, untouched corners where you can actually hear the silence — and now we've opened our gates to share this sanctuary with those who value a raw connection to the land, far from the crowds and noise of public access points.
The Land: The Severn River Outpost is situated on private property in the rugged New England Highlands. The boundary is defined by a 6km stretch of the Severn River—a winding, ancient corridor of dramatic granite canyons, rushing rapids, and deep, permanent waterholes. Because this water serves as our border and is held in private hands, it remains a rare pocket of wilderness that feels exactly as it did a century ago.
Our Philosophy: Rugged Simplicity, Off-Grid Comfort. We don't believe you have to "rough it" to have a true bush experience. Whether you're navigating the river system, tracking wildlife through the gorges, or sitting by the stone fire pit under a sea of stars, The Outpost gives you the freedom to slow down and experience the valley entirely on your own terms. While the Severn draws plenty of guests here for a Murray Cod strike, that's only part of what The Outpost offers - it is entirely yours to explore on your own terms.
Walk the bush wherever it takes you — no set track, no time limit. Bring the mountain bikes and cover more ground along the ridgelines. Sit quietly by the river or the spring-fed dam and watch for fallow deer, wild goats, and the native birdlife that moves through at dawn and dusk. Swim when it's hot. Cook a BBQ by the water. Or do none of it — grab a book, find a spot by the river, and simply slow down.
When the sun drops, settle in at the stone fire pit and watch the sky fill with more stars than you've seen in years.

For as long as we can remember, our lives have been driven by a passion for seeking out remote corners, untouched landscapes, and the quiet freedom of the deep bush. In 2024, we found this extraordinary piece of the New England high country and knew we had found our family's forever sanctuary. We believe the true spirit of the Australian wilderness can only be felt when you step away from the crowds, the noise, and the rush. Together with our children, Billie and Kayden, we live and breathe this landscape, and we are incredibly excited to open our gates and share our dream place with those who value a genuine, raw connection to the land.
